Who Are You Dressing For?

Every morning, we get dressed without giving it much thought.

But what if getting dressed isn't really about clothes at all?

What if it's one of the clearest reflections of our relationship with ourselves?

That was one of the biggest takeaways from my conversation with health psychologist and naturopath Sharon Craggill.

What started as a conversation about fashion quickly became something much deeper.

Because clothing has never really just been about clothing.

It's about identity. Confidence. Belonging. And sometimes, it's about hiding.

The Stories We Wear

Most of us don't consciously decide how we should dress.

We absorb messages from advertising, social media and the people around us about what's fashionable, flattering or "appropriate."

Over time, those messages can become louder than our own inner voice.

Sharon believes one of the healthiest things we can do is simply become aware of those stories. Not to judge ourselves—but to ask whether they're really ours.

Small Choices Matter

One part of our conversation I loved was Sharon's perspective on choosing natural fibres and shopping second-hand.

Not because these choices make us "better" people, but because they encourage us to slow down and become more intentional.

To choose quality over quantity.

To buy something because we genuinely love it—not because someone else told us we should.

It's a reminder that intentional living is often built through small, everyday decisions.

A Different Way to Think About Fashion

At Project Emerald, we often talk about the environmental impact of buying pre-loved fashion.

That remains incredibly important.

But over the past year, I've realised that fashion is also an opportunity to reconnect with ourselves.

To stop dressing for expectations.

And start dressing for the person we already are.

Maybe the real question isn't What should I wear today?

Maybe it's:

Who am I dressing for?

If the answer is yourself, you're probably closer to living intentionally than you think.

If this question resonates with you, I hope you'll take the time to listen to my conversation with Sharon Craggill.

We explore the connection between identity, health, confidence and conscious fashion—and why the way we get dressed each day can be a powerful reflection of how we see ourselves.

It was one of those conversations that stayed with me long after we stopped recording, and I hope it does the same for you.
