What Happens When You Stop Buying and Start Belonging?
Over the past year, I’ve had the privilege of speaking with incredible women who consistently challenge the way I think about intentional living.
This week’s conversation with Anastasia Gazis, the founder of Slow Fashion Hub, was another powerful reminder: the clothes we wear are often the least interesting part of the conversation.
Anastasia’s story isn’t a glossed-over tale of overnight success—it’s a story of deep courage.
She spoke openly about returning to university in her forties, navigating significant health challenges, making the difficult decision to leave an unhappy marriage, and ultimately building a business that reflects her core values rather than society’s expectations.
"It’s about what we need, not what we want."
Simple. But incredibly profound.
We live in a culture designed to keep us on a hamster wheel of consumption—telling us to buy more, chase the next trend, and upgrade constantly. Yet, so many wardrobes are overflowing, while so many women still stand in front of them every morning feeling like they have nothing to wear.
Maybe the answer isn't another online order. Maybe it’s a fundamental shift in our relationship with what we already own.
"Slow fashion isn't about giving up beauty; it's about making sure fashion serves us, not the other way around."
Anastasia describes slow fashion as being intentionally "anti-fashion." Not because she doesn't appreciate well-crafted garments, but because she advocates for natural fibres, conscious consumption, real community, and choosing quality over quantity.
More importantly, she reminds us that intentional living always starts with checking in with ourselves before making any decision.
The Heart of Project Emerald
That idea hits right at the core of why Project Emerald exists today.
Yes, our goal is to keep clothing in circulation and cut down on waste. But the deeper mission has never really been about the clothes.
It’s about connection. It’s about helping women reconnect with themselves so that the choices they make—whether in fashion, in business, or in daily life—feel genuinely aligned with who they truly are.
If you’ve ever:
Opened a wardrobe full of clothes and still felt disconnected...
Wondered why buying something new never quite fills the gap...
Felt curious about what living with more intention could actually look like...
...I think this conversation will speak directly to your heart.
