Listening before assuming

Women are constantly researched, targeted, categorised and spoken to.

We believe meaningful change begins by listening to what women are actually experiencing—what matters to them, what they wish was discussed more openly and what they need to feel supported.

Listening is not the final step. It is where the work begins.

Agency over instruction

We are not here to give women another set of expectations to meet.

We believe in supporting women to develop greater ownership of their time, energy, money, identity and voice. That means creating access to ideas, stories and perspectives while respecting every woman’s right to decide what is true and meaningful for her.

Authenticity and self-expression

Women change throughout their lives, but the world often expects them to remain recognisable, agreeable and consistent.

We believe women should have the freedom to evolve, express themselves and stop performing versions of themselves that no longer fit.

Coming back to yourself is not about returning to who you once were. It is about recognising who you are now.

Collective wisdom

There is extraordinary wisdom in women’s lived experience.

We believe the lessons women have learned—often quietly, privately or the hard way—should not be lost. When those experiences are shared, they can become a source of insight, reassurance and possibility for someone else.

Our stories matter. What we have learned matters. What we wish we had known earlier matters.

Belonging without judgement

We want to create spaces where women can arrive as they are—not as the most polished, productive or certain versions of themselves.

Belonging does not require us to have the same backgrounds, beliefs or answers. It asks us to listen with curiosity, respect one another’s experiences and recognise that no woman should have to navigate every season of life alone.

Conscious change

Awareness matters, but we also want to do something with what we learn.

We believe change can begin with one conscious choice: setting a boundary, asking a question, wearing something that feels like you, spending differently, speaking honestly or choosing another direction.

Individual choices matter. When women make them together, they can also begin to reshape communities, industries and culture.

What do we mean by agency?

Agency is the ability to make choices, act on them and influence the direction of your own life.

For Project Emerald, taking your power back is not about controlling everything around you. It is about recognising where choice still exists and strengthening your ability to use it.

It might mean reclaiming your time.

Protecting your energy.

Understanding your money.

Expressing your identity.

Trusting your own voice.

Or making a decision that reflects your values rather than somebody else’s expectations.

Agency will look different for every woman. That is precisely the point.

Through the Project Emerald podcast and Journal, women share honest stories, lived experience and the things they wish they had known earlier.

The Australian Women’s Pulse

Our national survey asks women how they are really feeling, which issues matter most and what they believe needs to change.

We will use those insights to guide our content, community initiatives, partnerships and future advocacy.

The Project Emerald Collective brings women together to explore meaningful themes, share perspectives and support one another through different seasons of life.

It is built around the belief that when women are genuinely heard, and when lived experience, insight and ideas are brought together—we can better understand where we are and imagine what could come next.
