Celebrating the Circular Fashion Festival: The Women Shaping a Sustainable Future

This weekend marks a major milestone for sustainable style in Australia: the Circular Fashion Festival returns to Western Australia for its second year—and every single ticketed runway has officially sold out!

Bringing a vision like this to life takes an extraordinary amount of dedication, persistence, and belief. Seeing the festival embraced so wholeheartedly by sponsors, designers, and over 500 attendees is a testament to the growing movement toward a more considered, creative fashion future.

A Snapshot of the Festival

Across two iconic venues—PS Art Space and WA Museum Boola Bardip—this year’s festival brings together an incredible lineup of local talent:

  • 7 Independent WA Designers leading the charge in sustainable creation.

  • 27 Students and Graduates showcasing the next generation of eco-conscious design.

  • 12 Pre-Loved Designer Micro-Businesses reimagining fashion retail.

  • An Immersive Exhibition & Two Premier Runways celebrating circularity.

  • 500+ Tickets Sold, uniting a passionate community of advocates and fashion lovers.

Behind these numbers are real people finding innovative ways to work with existing materials, build ethical small businesses, and challenge us to reconsider the true value of our clothes.

Beyond the Garment: The Women Behind the Designs

When we look at a finished garment on a runway, it’s easy to overlook the human journey behind it. Every piece carries a story, a distinct perspective, and a lifetime of experiences that shape what is created and why.

Through the Project Emerald Collective Podcast, I had the privilege of interviewing several remarkable women whose circular designs are featured at this year's festival. Hearing about their creative processes, what drives them, and the care they pour into their work has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.

A Growing Movement

What is most inspiring about this festival is the broader momentum it fosters. It’s about more than just a weekend of runways—it’s a collective shift toward supporting independent talent, choosing pre-loved over new, sharing practical skills, and making room for sustainable design.

To the organizers, designers, volunteers, and attendees: congratulations. Bringing people together around a shared vision takes immense effort, and I am cheering you on from Tasmania!

And to the women who shared their personal stories with me on the podcast—thank you. It is an honor to help bring your work to a wider audience.

With love,

Eve
